Background

Pre-Game

Isaiah was born into a large, loud family that have lived in Algiers, New Orleans, Louisiana, for just about as long as anyone cares to remember. While most of the kids he ran with got into drugs and gang fights, Isaiah's dad Lamar kept a firm hand on his kids. It was because of Lamar and his wife, Shareese, that their kids were in church every Sunday and that they kept up their grades. Lamar was determined that his kids would go to college, even if he hadn't, and Isaiah benefitted from his parents' discipline. He managed to keep his nose clean - no convictions, at least - and after graduating high school, he enrolled in Southern University at New Orleans and got a bachelor's degree in mathematics.

He contemplated becoming a teacher, but that changed after a hold-up at a gas station at three in the morning. Isaiah got shot in the shoulder by a crackhead, and he'd have been killed if a cop hadn't ended the situation with a well-placed bullet to the attacker's head. During his recovery in the hospital, Isaiah decided to join the police academy. He passed his classes, and he was hired by the New Orleans Police Department in 1993.

Isaiah did his time on patrol and in uniform, working the streets. Occasionally he got shot at, but not all that often. Nowhere near as often as Hollywood liked to make it sound like. This was not a disappointment. After awhile, with a lot of maneuvering and struggling, he distinguished himself and passed tests to become a general detective. He continued to work for more promotions and assignments, until finally he got to where he wanted to be - detective lieutenant in the homocide department.

Isaiah's also had his fair share of personal problems. He's been married twice and divorced twice. He has a son by his first wife, school-aged, and he's still paying her child support and alimony. He very rarely refers to either of his ex-wives by name anymore, preferring instead to call the first Pestilence and the second Famine. He's decided to stop the marriage thing before he ends up hooking up with War or Death.

Current Events

Not much has happened to Isaiah lately. He's still paying alimony and child support. He's still pretty irritable about it.

Personality

He used to be a nice guy. He used to go around with a noble ideal in his head of being a champion of the law and of justice. Then reality bit him in the ass, and it turned Isaiah into a bitter, tired man who struggles to uphold what he thinks is right, even when the world seems to be turning to crap all around him. Some days, he wonders why he even bothers anymore. He's watched too many criminals walk free because of the flaws in the justice system, and it infuriates him.

Strengths

Quick mind, quick on the draw. Isaiah has a lot of strengths, including a hefty amount of resources in the NOPD and the authority to smack down the little bitches. Despite the corruption running rampant in the police department, Washington's a rarity in that he will never accept a bribe. He will do what he thinks is right. This could also be a weakness, technically.

Weaknesses

He really, really needs to work on his people skills. Desperately. He's also adamant about following rules, even if it really irks the hell out of him to do so. Being presented with a criminal who cheated the system and walked free is one way to guarantee rage from him.

Relationships

Alicia: For a few years he hadn't seen her, but he'll never forget that murder case she helped him solve and the one loose thread that has been bothering him for years. Looks like the kid's all grown up now, though. He never expected it, but they're developing an easy-going friendship, often just hanging out together, going bowling or watching sports.

Amanda: This woman, a former cop, shot her own brother in front of hundreds of witnesses, and Isaiah cannot understand why she is still free. She should be in prison. She should be rotting in Hell. She is a reason why he's grown so tired and bitter, having seen the justice system fail so spectacularly.

Daniqua: This woman tried to give him a bunny. Really.

Jaqueline: Another detective in the force, with whom he has a purely professional relationship. Isaiah neither likes nor dislikes the woman. As long as she continues to get shit done, they'll stay okay.

Jordan: Another detective in homicide and someone Isaiah's worked with for awhile. He's an all right guy, he supposes, except he likes to think he's funny when Isaiah mostly just finds him kind of annoying.

Jones: She's a strange, strange woman, one who's cold as ice. She also hangs out and goes bowling with psychopathic murderers and betrayers who should be behind bars. Isaiah thinks it's just a matter of time before she's dismissed from the force.
